How'd everybody handle that snow?

The temperature's still cold but the sun is shining, and the brutal snow storm that plowed into us for the past few days is finally past! So how's everybody been doing in their recovery?

Interestingly enough, it seems as though the worst parts of the storm barely missed the major cities. At the last minute, an unexpected push shifted the storm just enough to the side that New York (which got 7 inches) and Boston (which picked up 6) were spared its full fury. The surrounding areas weren't so lucky.

Binghamton NY might have gotten the worst of it. When all was said and done, they were looking at over 2 and a half feet of snow. In fact, the national guard had to be called out to help. This picture from CBS shows what residents in Binghamton are dealing with right now, as the national guard distributes food and water to homes in the town that are so badly snowed-in that nobody can even think about leaving.

At the time of writing, there have been three deaths attributed to the storm. Not surprisingly, all three involved driving accidents. A young girl's car skidded on ice and spun out of control, an elderly man was hit by a snow plow in the parking lot, and an Amtrak train collided with a snow plow, killing a nearby worker who was trying to clear the tracks.

That last one is easily the most baffling, as there's no reason that a train should even be moving while plows are active and clearing the tracks. The family of that worker will almost certainly be suing the city for his wrongful death.

We expect this won't be the last of the accidents reported during the snow storm, although we do hope that the death toll doesn't climb any higher.
