When it's snowing out, sometimes you're better off just staying home!

March 13, 2017

It looks like the northeast has one heck of a storm rolling in tomorrow. We're all scrambling to prepare, stocking up on water, food, salt and whatever else pops into our heads. For that reason, Simia's making this week all about bad weather. Hopefully, the stories and tips that we share throughout the week will keep you and your loved ones safe.

Let's start off with a cautionary tale about driving during bad weather. We all know it's a risk when you go out and it's actively snowing or even raining, but one of the things we don't consider is the monolithic vehicles driving alongside us. We tend to think of school and city buses as fairly safe, constant things. We assume these drivers will drive well and won't make mistakes. Unfortunately, this isn't often the case, and the town of Clare County, Michigan is living proof.

The bus was driving kids to school during a snowy morning when the accident happened. At 6:48 in the morning, the bus went through an intersection and didn't notice an oncoming truck. The truck swerved to try to avoid the bus, but ended up still colliding with the front. (As you can see in the picture above, the bus's front was scrapped.)

The trucker's quick thinking may have saved the lives of many children, as the interior of the bus wasn't physically torn up. The impact of the crash was still severe enough to hospitalize two children, and while they are in stable condition, there's a lot that needs to be answered for.

The accident is being investigated, but bad weather is already being flagged as the primary cause. This is why it's so important to be careful. Even if you drive safe, there's not much you can do when a bus and a truck collide and you're caught in the middle. When the weather's looking bad, it's always worth it to take a moment and think to yourself "Do I really need to drive right now?"

That said, accidents happen regardless of how careful they are. When disaster tries, we're always here to help you pick up the pieces. If you or someone you care about has been involved in an accident because of bad weather, it's time to get the help you need. You can submit a quick application right now, give us a call at (866) 587-4320, or send an e-mail to info@simiafunding.com. We want to help you, so let us know about your situation.
